Abstract

Singkut District is the center of rubber plantations, most of the farmers also raise livestock. Goats are livestock that are cultivated by many farmers in Singkut District. The breeds of goats that are kept are mostly ettawah cross bred (PE), especially Bukit Bumi Raya Village and surounding villages (Bukit Murau, Bukit Talang Mas). Official data of Bukit Bumi Raya Village as of August 2022, the population of goats in Bukit Bumi Raya Village, Singkut Subdistrict and its 2 surounding villages is 583 heads with 217 female acceptors. The pattern of rearing is caged, feed is given by means of a stocked by the breeder. Reproduction relies on natural mating in estrus female goats (does) with available males. The number and quality of available males is inadequate. Breeders have applied AI to cattle but AI has not been implemented to goats. The Boer goat breed is a superior breed of meat goat that has the potential to interbreed with PE goats in Singkut Subdistrict. This community service activity aims to introduce and implement AI pilots for crossbreeding with Boer goats in order to motivate breeders for AI technology in goats. Activities are carried out in stages: a. Socialization to farmers and related parties, especially veterinarians and local inseminators, b. Counseling on the benefits and technical implementation of AI in does c. Trial of AI implementation on 50 does, and d. Program evaluation, The results of the socialization and counseling response from farmers were good, 86% said they agreed with the implementation of AI in their goats, including for the procurement of goat straw independently. AI trials on 50 does obtained pregnancy results in 19 does (38%). The conclusion of this activity is that the response of farmers to the introduction of AI in PE goats with Boer goat straw is very good and technically it can be carried out by local inseminator. The suggestion that can be conveyed is that AI activities can be carried out continuously on all potential does acceptors by ensuring the availability of frozen Boer semen straws.
