Lactation and Post-Milking Goat Maintenance Management at the Sido Makmur Farmers Group, Solok Village, Muaro Jambi Regency

Abstract

The purpose of this community service is to improve the knowledge and skills of farmers regarding milking management and post-harvest handling of goat milk in the Sido Makmur farmer group in Solok village, Muaro Jambi district. The community service activities include socialization, milk management training, milk handling, assistance with milking and milk processing support equipment, conducting milking and milk processing practices, monitoring and evaluation. The community service activities began with socialization with the farmer group and counseling. This meeting agreed on a training schedule, practice and monitoring. The training and practice activities were carried out at the group leader's house. The training equipment was goat milking techniques and milk processing. This was followed by discussions with members of the farmer group. The handover of supporting equipment in the form of milk cans, milk buckets, gas compost and pans for milk processing to the farmer group leader. Milking practices were carried out in the goat pen owned by the farmer group next to the group leader's house. Pasteurized milk processing activities were carried out at the farmer group leader's house. At the end of the activity, evaluation and monitoring were carried out using a questionnaire. The monitoring results showed that this community service activity had a good perception and could improve farmer knowledge. The conclusion of this community service activity is that the activity went according to plan with good perception and was able to improve the knowledge and skills of livestock farmers.
