Abstract

Small-scale fish processing businesses play an important role in increasing the added value of fishery products and improving the income of coastal communities. The Women Fisher Group in Kampung Laut Village, Kuala Jambi District, East Tanjung Jabung Regency produces processed fishery products such as shrimp crackers and shrimp-based keletek. The main challenge faced by the group is the use of simple packaging that does not support marketing and product competitiveness. This community service program aimed to improve community capacity through the implementation of packaging technology and product labeling. The program consisted of needs assessment, counseling, demonstrations, hands-on training, and evaluation. Twenty members participated in the program. The results showed that participants' knowledge increased from an average of 27.6% to 87.6% after the training. Participants were able to select appropriate packaging materials, develop product labels, and create more attractive packaging designs. The implementation of packaging technology positively affected product appearance, product identity, and market expansion opportunities. This program demonstrates that strengthening packaging aspects is an effective strategy to improve the competitiveness of fishery-based products in coastal communities.
